I've been thinking about this since you highlighted it Barbara and I wonder if the name Queen Mab was 'exactly calculated' to appeal to Marianne. For all we know, the horse might have really been called Molly and if he hadn't met Marianne, it might have been presented to a lady with a different name that would appeal to her particular taste in literature or opera etc. If he had been courting Elinor, I don't imagine he would have named the horse Queen Mab. Perhaps I am doing him an injustice...
