Shy vs. reserved   Written by Anne L (9/28/2006 10:02 p.m.)
Are you new?

Why does Edward readily admit to shyness but seem so taken aback, even hurt, by Marianne saying he is reserved? In my set of connotations, I would rather be reserved than shy. I would describe Elinor as reserved and mean it as a compliment! Shy makes me think "afraid" but reserved makes me think of someone who is confident enough in himself that he does not need to tell every thought and feeling to everyone. What am I missing?
