Exactly calculated   Written by Barbara (9/28/2006 10:22 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Inducing young women into folly, penned by Delories
Are you new?

Something else about Queen Mab that bothers me is the fact that Willoughby had told Marianne the horse "was exactly calculated to carry a woman". He breeds horses himself on his estate (which would seem to be a rather expensive undertaking for someone with an income of only £600 a year! The Dashwood women cannot even afford to keep one horse on £500 a year, let alone enough horses to be breeding them. True they are four, and Willoughby is one, but he has servants and an estate, not a cottage.

Also, the fact that Willougby has a horse with such a name and that it seems he intended to give to a woman long before he met Marianne--the whole thing sounds very 'calculated' indeed.
