I too have very short patience for Marianne, so you are not alone. I want to SUTH her on a regular basis.

As to Elinor's response to Edward, it seems to me that that many people do similar. We have the obnoxious family member that we seldom see and when we do we are polite because they are family, regardless to how we actually feel.

I think this must be very difficult for Elinor. From their time together at Norwood she realized he had a "want of spirits" but was pleasant. Makes you wonder (and Elinore I'm sure) what is going on with Edward to get such a change of behavior.
