But I think it's just that Brandon is so reserved and keeps everything hidden, that Elinor did not see his regard until she got to know him better. Probably Sir John saw it better, as he is better acquainted with him, but I think it was pure speculation on Mrs. Jennings' part; if it hadn't been, she wouldn't have dropped it so soon.

That's my opinion, anyway, I don't have really much fact to base it on other than the way I read it in the book.
