Yes, she should have been kind to him regardless, as I said. Regardless, he's a nice man. I do think, though, that Mrs. Jennings really killed the entire relationship, and Marianne had to be contrary and all that. Even Elinor can't look upon Brandon as a match for Marianne at this point, and wishes him indifferent.

But the fact remains that Marianne needs to look beyond Mrs. Jennings and Sir John and see that Brandon is a human being, and maybe respect Elinor's opinion of him a little more. And there's also Mrs. Dashwood's opinion of Brandon. It really paints Marianne in a bad light that she would go along with Willoughby rather than her own family.
