This is one question asked quite often - why Margaret?

I agree with your analysis that Marianne in some respects is closer to Margaret, being concious of Elinor's censure regarding her behaviour.

We have also been told that Margaret does have Marianne's taste for sensibility. Of course this could have been Marianne's influence on her.

As a carrier of information, important for the plot to move on, Margaret is certainly very helpful.
I had never really seen it like this before.
