I think most of the people over at Barton Park are of the opinon that people should be paired off and married, but one partner will do as well as another in most cases.

I think that they've decided Brandon has a preference for Marianne (mostly on the strength of their imagination, so far) and so he should have her because he liked her first. He'd like his friend to have the lady of his choice.

So the others should just pair off and then everyone will be happy. I really doubt that he put a lot more thought into it than that.
