I thought it was probably a combination of things - shock, her youth and inexperience and also pure embarrassment. It is all very romantic to be swept up in someone's arms, but after falling over, a situation embarrassing enough in itself, and then your rescuer being a perfect stranger, im fairly sure I wouold be blushing and hiding my face too!
