These two don't realize that their attempts to bring people together should stop with providing entertainment and the opportunity for people to get to know each other. Their teasing can drive lovers away.

I'm sure both Marianne and Mrs Dashwood protest so much *partly* because they both know this. Sir John and Mrs Jennings might frighten away a man that one of the girls might want.
