in consequence of the missive, Sir John and Willoughby, penned by James S.
Some famous authors did not like Austen, one calling her "mistress of derision," probably after reading chs. 7 and 9 on poor old Sir John. And it is true, I've never seen an author assault her own characters before. But, even when they are derided, they still possess humanity. And are three dimensional.
After reading ch. 9, I really felt I had met a country squire. Satire usually flattens characters. But I could not predict what SJ might say. As you feel when you first meet a person.
