If I may hazard a guess   Written by Karinna A. (9/22/2006 11:03 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Child-centeredness, penned by Line
Are you new?

JA's objection to the Middleton children, and to Lady Middleton's parenting, is that she seems to exercise no discipline over them. She "spoil[s] them all the year round" and when they come down to dinner, they scramble all over Lady Middleton and tear--not mess up, but actually tear--her clothes. Kids will be kids, but even I would draw the line at rough-housing so much that they tear clothes.

I apologies to all the mothers out there, but I just can't buy that Lady Middleton is cold and distant just because she has children. Mrs. Dashwood, at least, would make allowances, having had 3 children within a 6 year span herself, but she doesn't. Plus, Lady Middleton is cold and distant even when her children are not around for her to look after. Nope, I think she's just a cold fish.

*goes back to lurking*
