Supporting a family   Written by teri-mc (9/21/2006 3:11 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Some musings on age differences., penned by Barbara
Are you new?

I think the reason for a 10+ year age difference between husband and wife was due to the necessity of being able to support a family. Therefore, before a man could marry, he had to either move up in his profession or inherit his title/estate.

John Dashwood had inherited money from his mother so he didn't need to worry about getting Norwood to be able to marry Fanny.
