Cold *and* unfeeling...   Written by Reeba (9/20/2006 5:53 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Cold, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

would that mean 'cold' does not include 'unfeeling'?

John Dashwood's feelings are defined as cold hearted. The two words normally going together to describe a certain feeling.

Fanny Dashwood's 'cold' invitation to me seems like an invitation which she wanted to sound neutral, because she wanted to hide her elation.
This definition sort of fits in with describing Lady Middleton, I think.
I can't imagine Lady Middleton being anything but neutral in her feelings towards the Dashwoods.
Similarly I can't imagine that she had feelings like Fanny Dashwood - at least till now.
