I think you said it very well Mandy N, but I also like to mention that there most likely were part of a gentlemans duty to pay attention to his neighbours that are also part of the society, and there can't have been that many families with large estates in the same area. It would serve one best to try be friends, or one would have to sit at home and have a dull evening over a lonely dinner. Not many people like that day after day.
