Quite possible that ..   Written by Reeba (9/20/2006 3:27 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Lady Middleton’s influence…, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

it could be a mixture of both the interpretations.

Having just experienced a wife's influence on her husband, which caused suffering, I feel sure they would wonder about this wife's influence on hers.

Even if Sir John is not the type to be influenced by anyone, LM could show resentment in several ways which could be quite uncomfortable for them.

Her *not being bothered* shows her taste is 'not' in these things.

Then, as you and Barbara have mentioned, it could also be a curiosity about their social compatablity.

LM does not show taste for things that society dictates as 'taste', but does show that she has a taste for 'motherhood'. No mean thing IMO :)
