Elinor was right in fearing how her mother would spend.
Another defect of this cottage is that it isn't on top of a hill as a cottage should be, but surrounded by it at the back and partially on both the sides, thus blocking the picturesque view which can only be had from the 'top of a hill' (Anne Radcliffe always told us about Emily admiring views from the top).
