Chawton's size   Written by Pennie (9/19/2006 10:00 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Larger, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

The rooms may have seemed small but there were lots of them, making the overall size of Chawton bigger. I still remember that the entrance hallway/room and the room were JA wrote were reasonably large. Depends on what you're used to. At the time I was living in a tiny inner city terrace house so Chawton seemed huge.

There are mention of offices in Barton Cottage, which may take up some space, as well as garrets where the servants would have slept. So the house may be big, but the living area may not be.
