I had never realised in how many ways JA was poking fun at Marianne. I simply took it for granted that flannel waistcoats were for invalids, and Cowper was passionate, since Elinor never corrected her. It's interesting how Marianne is corrected in relation to calling the Col old and an invalid, but not in relation to saying he was an invalid due to his flannel waistcoat
