The cost of hiring a post chaise & post horses   Written by Maisy (9/19/2006 6:54 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Illustrates Mrs. Dashwood's character a bit IMO..., penned by Robbin
Are you new?

I just came across some information in a book I recently purchased to inform my reading of S&S for this GR:

In the early 19th century, the cost of hiring a post chaise and post horses was rather expensive, at approx. 2 shillings per mile (p. 308, Wives and Daughters: Women and Children in the Georgian COuntry House by Joanna Martin).

I haven't yet stumbled upon information on the cost breakdown of hiring horses and chaises.
