Mrs D, being so kindhearted, would probably be a good mistress. Plus the fact that she's not a terribly practical woman, so I'm sure she's quite lenient in the sense that she lets people get on with their work and wouldn't boss them around just for the pleasure of it...not like another character we know.

As TracyW points out, perhaps the fact that "Fanny was so terrible the servants just wanted to get away" was an even more compelling factor!
