After having to deal with the Romantic hyper-sensitivity of both her mother and Marianne, perhaps it is a relief to spend time with someone who is less overtly emotional. It is easy to forget how much Elinor must also be feeling the loss of her father and home of the last decade since she governs her feelings. I sometimes wonder if she got her temperment from her father as Marriane did from her mother. If so, it may also be a source of Edward's appeal for her.
