I agree, although Elinor may've thought 'some distance' which would allow friends like Edward to visit fairly regularly.

She appears taken aback at the distance from Norland they were to settle yet realized it was prudent to accept the small house.

I find it of interest Mrs Dashwood writes two letters in reply to her relation, Sir John. Perhaps a letter to thank him, and a letter to accept his offer.
