...which I won't mention here because I think it would constitute a spoiler (it's over on the S&S board, on the "GR Focus" thread.

But I totally agree with Anne L, that this "veneer of good manners and gentility" is what makes Fanny D. and the object of my GR focus so toxic. It's what enables them to get away with it.

And, of course, in real life it's like that, too.
