Gosh, Julie thanks a lot.   Written by Reeba (9/17/2006 9:35 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Do these words seem familiar to you?, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

The similarity is amazing.

Jane Austen did say she wrote only what she saw and knew.
I am wondering whether JA knew about these discussions.
Does that mean this was sort of a *normal* conversation. That JA may have witnessed other people discussing in this manner about the amount to allow for helpless female relatives?

And 'they' were talking of an amount much lessser than the amount Fanny Dashwood thought would be enough for the Dashwood women.

Should Fanny's assumptions about the comfort of the Dashwood women on an income far above the Austen women not sound so bad after all? I wonder.

Of course the Dashwoods lived better, on an income of £4000 a year, so their *fall* was one from a higher point.
