Fanny is a Sister too…   Written by Robbin (9/16/2006 10:06 a.m.)
Are you new?

This is the first post on my focus for this GR—Sister Relationships.

Fanny is the sister of Edward and Robert but as John Dashwood’s wife she is Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret’s sister too, with the stipulations of in-law and half-blood of course. The connection is weak (because of John’s but more particularly Fanny’s cold selfishness) but I believe in-laws were commonly called sister, brother, mother—etc and in some cases even lived up to the names. In Chapter 2 Fanny shows that she has absolutely no affection or regard for her husband’s sisters but I can hardly think she would expect to be treated so badly by her brothers—I think it will be interesting to see how Edward and Robert treat Fanny considering how she believes John should treat his sisters. Fanny’s whittling down of John’s intentions in honoring his father’s request to help his step-mother and sisters is one of the funniest scenes in the novel IMO and as always was an LOL moment for me. :D
