|LOL Lines Act V

Mrs. M’s request for no honor before ladies is my favorite LoL line in Act V. Captain A’s suggestion that Lydia should forgive him or his sword was fun and I sincerely wish I had ordered the DVD so I could see that visually; it must be quite funny just to look at. Faulkland’s lines were not funny at all, although I do see his behavior is supposed to be amusing because it is so silly, I still find him too annoying to be generally very funny. I think Fighting Bob’s valor slipping away was extremely funny but I brought it up in another post so I do not quote them here. He comes around nicely; it is like he suddenly wakes up (I’m going to duel!!) and realizes what he is doing and is appalled and scared. I hope he might try wooing a lady instead of trying to win a wife in a duel since his valor has completely slipped away by the time he is planning a party for his friends. ;D
Abs. Well, sir, you shall hear of my success—you shall hear.— O Lydia!—forgive me, or this pointed steel—says I.
Mrs. Mal. Come, come, let’s have no honour before ladies— Captain Absolute, come here—How could you intimidate us so?— Here’s Lydia has been terrified to death for you.
Acres. Mind, I give up all my claim—I make no pretensions to any thing in the world; and if I can’t get a wife without fighting for her, by my valour! I’ll live a bachelor.
Acres. Odds wrinkles! No.—But give me your hand, Sir Lucius, forget and forgive; but if ever I give you a chance of pickling me again, say Bob Acres is a dunce, that’s all.
