Act V: Preparing for the duel   Written by Cheryl (3/8/2007 12:27 a.m.)
Are you new?

I loved this scene with Sir Lucius and Acres waiting for the duel to begin. It's very funny and their differing ideas on how one prepares to duel shows their differing personalities very well.

In measuring off paces, Acres thinks 40 yards would be about right, while Sir Lucius three steps "a very pretty distance." As to how to stand, Acres thinks to the side, to make a smaller target, but Sir Lucius is disdainful: "Well, now if I hit you in the body, my bullet has a double chance - for if it misses a vital part of your right side, 'twill be very hard if it don't succeed on the left!" While Sir Lucius thinks Acres should stand full-frontal: "now a ball or two may pass clean through your body, and never do any harm at all." Poor Acres: "Clean through me! - a ball or two clean through me!"

Poor man. He really needs to get back to the country, doesn't he? What are the odds that he never leaves Devon again? ;-)
