We talked very early on about how the proper names helped to define the character. This is really evident this week.
How perfect is it that the country bumpkin is named "Acres" and his estate is called "Clod Hall." And the man so eager for himself and others to fight duels is named "Sir Lucius O'Trigger" who lives at "Blunderbuss Hall." Fabulous.
One other name-play I noticed in this Act is a quote from Sir Anthony Absolute who, when his son suddenly agrees to marry where his father wishes says: "Why now you talk sense - absolute sense." [emphasis mine] What a great play on his surname and how that name describes him.
And of course, everything that comes out of Mrs Malaprop's mouth. Like most of us here I'm sure, I'm a real "wordie" and I'm really enjoying the wordplay in The Rivals.
