...about making the sound of poetry (not swearing!) fit the meaning! In a way, Sheridan is stating his own aesthetic credo here through the mouth of Acres. The spicy sound of a lot of Sheridan's lines (like these mouthwatering italian musical words you've just highlighted) are perfectly suited to the spicy meaning he means them to convey.

Sheridan's great career ended tragically, in some degree due to his alcoholism, and it's so tragic, because in this youthful play, we see him at his best, when he was merely drunk on words.
