Acres. Ha! my dear friend, noble captain, and honest Jack, how do’st thou? just arrived, faith, as you see.—Sir, your humble servant. Warm work on the roads, Jack!—Odds whips and wheels! I’ve travelled like a comet, with a tail of dust all the way as long as the Mall.
Abs. Ah! Bob, you are indeed an eccentric planet, but we know your attraction hither.
I love Bob's method of speaking.
Here for those of you who are unaware of his reference, here is a picture of the Mall: it was indeed long in 1772( and still is)
This picture is taken from John Rocque's map of London, which he published in 1747.
The Mall runs along St James Park , parallel to Pall Mall. It terminated at The Queen's House as it was called from the 1760s onwards. This was the home of George II and Queen Charlotte. On this map it is shown as "Buckingham House"
It is now known as Buckingham Palace.
St James's palace, where official court functions took place, can be seen in the centre of the map section.
