Books in disguise   Written by Elena (2/28/2007 3:29 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Act I: Disguise theme, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

You mention people, but how about the small scene when Lydia orders Lucy to disguise a whole (substantial enough) library of adventures and romances into pious and instructinve books.

There are Peregrine Pickle, Roderick Random - picaresque novels by Tobias Smollett safely out of view; The Innocent Adultery is put into (suggestive!) The Whole Duty of Man, the Ovid is under the bolster (I hope it is Metamorphoses, not Ars amatoria), and The Man of Feeling goes into Lucy's pocket, and Mrs. Chapone (Mrs Hester Chapone, one of the bluestocking circle) and our long-time acquiantance Fordyce's Sermons are in sight with Lord Chesterfield's Letters to His Son.
