Exploded excuse   Written by Robbin (2/26/2007 7:12 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Sheridan's Preface, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

Hurry in writing has long been exploded as an excuse for an author;— however, in the dramatic line, it may happen, that both an author and a manager may wish to fill a chasm in the entertainment of the public with a hastiness not altogether culpable.

Very gallant of RBS to deflect any blame aimed at the managers of the play on opening night and I find the idea that Hurry was exploded as an excuse very funny. I wonder if the word exploded was used in this way often; it reminds me of the modern sounding “I’ll blast you!”
