I'm on Darcy's side   Written by Geri-Lynn (3/30/2004 3:26 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Science v. Prescience, penned by BarbB
Are you new?

] Who do you feel you are more like - Lizzy, willing to accept that some things just cannot be explained by science or Darcy, everything can be explained except for G-d?

I have to say that for me, the most disappointing part of this novel is the introduciton of dark magics as an explanation for a character's behavior. Mumbo jumbo does not make for good story telling (IMHO) - especially with characters as rich as these to write about.

So, with that in mind, I am definitely on Darcy's side. I am not so closed minded that I would completely dismiss Elizabeth's POV, but give me something tangible anyday - over voodoo, curses and the like.

I also have a difficult time reconciling this Lizzy with the Lizzy from P&P -- whose intuitive talents were greatly lacking (think Wickham). I'm reserving my final judgement until I complete the book. But I'm hoping for a character-driven explanation rather than a New Orleans mystical/magic - driven culmination.
