Let's review all the clues, facts, suspects that we have uncovered this week before we go on to Chapters 21-22 on Sunday.
I will start it off.
The trials of Caroline Parrish, nee Bingley
Caroline Bingley acts like Caroline Bingley; very smug in her engagement to the rich American, Mr. Frederick Parrish. The hasty nuptials take place in London and cause the newly married Bingleys and Darcys to delay their plans.
The wedding is lavish. Caroline's wedding ring is a very large fire opal, surrounded by smaller stones and covers most of her finger. Though unusual, there is a double ring ceremony so Mr. Parrish wears a wedding ring, too.
On the wedding night, the Darcys see Caroline walking in a dangerous area of London carrying a bulging reticule; she seems dazed. They return her to her husband.
The next day, Caroline Parrish goes for a ride with Juliet Kendall and loses control of her horse; usually a very gentle creature.
Next Caroline is found in the kitchen holding a knife with both her wrists cut. Attempted suicide?
The party removes to Netherfield; Bingleys, Darcys, Hursts, Parrishes, Professor Randolph. Elizabeth finds Caroline wandering through the house; sleepwalking?
Caroline's left hand is severely burned during? before? a fire that rages through Netherfield.
The Hursts and Parrishes stay at Longbourn House while Netherfield is being made habitable after the fire. Caroline is acting more like the Caroline we love to hate ;-)
Upon return to Netherfield Hall, Caroline suffers headaches and continues to wander the corridors at night.
Mr. Parrish is a very devoted husband before others, but one wonders why she gets away from him and gets into all these misadventures.
