In Chapter 19 (after the professor's session with Caroline),I was very worried when Elizabeth was scratched by Caroline's ring -- what if it is poison? And could Parrish's plantation (Mont Joyaux) have some connection to the jewels in this ring? There seem to be forces connected to both rings, but especially Caroline's.
