I was wondering if anyone has read The Italian by Ann Radcliffe. There's frequent mention of it in the book: it is Elizabeth's favorite Radcliffe novel and she's constantly being interrupted by Mr. Randolph when she tries to read it.

I'm not familiar with the book and in my over suspicious mind, I can't help but wonder if there's a connection there that I might be missing.
