] Losing control of the horse seems significant.

Hmm..could the horse have been given something maybe on a lump of sugar before Caroline came out for the ride? Interesting though that the horse reacted the way he did when Caroline leaned over towards Miss Kendall..maybe there was something under her saddle?? Such as a small needle or something sharp and when Caroline leaned over it stuck the horse and off he went.
