I agree with you about Mr. Parrish and his estate. I don't even trust Lizzy's interpretation of the estate's name, as it comes from so dubious a source. Mrs. Bennet says that it's a French name and Lizzy, with her rudimentary knowledge of the language, figures that it must mean "Joyful Hill", "Joyful Mountain" or something like that. (Perhaps she was influenced by the memory of exploring the mount with Mr. Darcy at the end of P&P!) ;-) Granted, Louisiana is loaded with French names, but assumptions are assumptions. ;-) For all we know, it could be a Native American name.
