I agree with the others who think that most of the characters acted pretty much as we might expect. Mr. Collins was fawning and pompously chiding by turns and Mrs. Bennet was doing her usual violent swings between excessive happiness and petty vexations. In short, most of the characters seemed as deliciously flawed as they were when JA created them. However, there were a couple of things that surprised me. One thing--and I'm not sure what to make of it--is that Lizzy seems to employ sarcastic wit more than I've seen her do before. It seems more reminiscent of JA's wit than of Lizzy's, if that makes sense. I'm enjoying the comments themselves, but some of them have given me the tiniest bit of pause, to think that they are coming from Lizzy. Also, is anyone else wondering whether Lizzy will be repeating her old mistakes in this book, as to trusting in people she probably shouldn't? This is a chicken and the egg question for me. I can't decide whether I don't trust Parrish because Lizzy trusts him so thoroughly on such short acquaintance or whether I just plain don't trust him myself as a reader so I want Lizzy to be wary of him as well. ;-) I'm watching Lizzy and her perceptions very carefully, especially since she has such a history of making mistaken judgements in the past. (Btw, I must echo Barbara's comment--I haven't read ahead and this is all conjecture!) Does anyone think she might be mistaken again, or is she going to be vastly clever and figure out a mystery all on her own?
