Caroline's marrying an American   Written by Anne Charlotte (3/21/2004 9:43 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Scrambling to catch up, penned by Tara O'Donnell
Are you new?

]Perhaps, but I feel that Miss Bingley would be eager to get over losing Darcy to Lizzie by snatching up the first wealthy man in her path-since.

At first I was as astonished as Karrie. I agree with her that Caroline is too snobbish to consider an American as an eligible husband. I don't know much about this chapter of history but I think that Americans were not very popular in Britain then because of the war of independence etc and were regarded as savages in general. And Caroline is someone who certainly agrees to such prejudices. Therefore I was quite taken aback about their engagement at first but your explanation that she was simply desperate to marry any rich man is very plausible for me.

Yet, what surprises me even more is that he actually decided to marry her !!!
It seems that Parrish really loves her and does not only want her connections to gain ground in England.
But Caroline as we know her from P&P isn't someone who can make herself easily agreeable and is therefore not likely to make such a nice man fall in love with her.
So I'm very suspicious and convinced that there must be a hidden reason why Parrish married her.
No man in his right mind would want to marry Caroline Bingley, wouldn't he??? ;-)
