Darcy knew the only reason ....   Written by Karen 2L (6/23/2007 9:28 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, The way you portray it, it sounds so simple..., penned by Lila
Are you new?

Bingley gave up Jane was because he convinced Bingley that Jane didn't care for him...so in actuality Jane's feelings for Bingley is the ONLY issue. Darcy now had proof Jane cared because Darcy has no reason to doubt Lizzy. (He hems and haws here a bit in the letter but he knows he is not on solid ground.) It may take Darcy some time to recognize the truth of LIzzy's other accusations about his behavior, but he has no reason to doubt Lizzy speaks the truth about Jane. Whether or not Darcy has objections to Jane's family is irrelevant since he knows Bingley doesn't hold those objections. Maybe April was too soon. How about May or June or July?

Yes, he's flawed, he's human...and this is the chink in the armor that makes him -- for me --less than the paragon he's supposed to be. (Okay, it's a plot device.)
