Everything we have learned about Darcy shows that he is a standup character. His intentions are honorable. If he could have done something to bring them together in less than the time it took in the book, I am sure he would have done it. Darcy could not know for sure whether either of the two (Jane and Bingley) were actually in love still until he saw them together. Bringing them together was key, and I think that this happened as soon as it could happen...

He is after all human, and he had to deal with his own pain too.

Whether or not Bingley could hide his feelings better than others is not clear to me.. But that is not a necessary part of the equation. It may be that Darcy and Bingley did not spend as much time together during this time. I would imagine, Darcy's rejection would have sent him on a journey of self-discovery which requires introspection.. He may not have wanted to be near his friends with whom he shared so many memories of Lizzy...
