in consequence of the missive, Perhaps Lizzy can forgive Darcy's...., penned by Karen 2L
I am not very good with the time frame, but let's talk through it... Darcy finds out Jane's true feelings in April at Hunsford, but he has been rejected by Lizzy. He does not assume that he will ever see her or her family again. He is after all human (albeit a quite magnificent one), and he has to overcome his own rejection. He also believes his friend to be flighty to some extent... Somewhere in the book there is a description of Bingley as falling quickly and temporarily in and out of love. Perhaps Bingley does not let on that he is still in love with Jane, so there is no reason for Darcy to interfere again. When he does see Lizzy in Derbyshire, it is of short duration and followed by his efforts to address the immediate issue of Lydia and Wickham.
But at the meeting in Lambton, Bingley's questions about Herfordshire and Lizzy's sisters may have hinted to Darcy that Bingley was indeed still in love with Jane...
After this, he did the right thing on all accounts... Did he not?
I think Darcy is honorable and generous on all counts...
