was still claiming that her feelings for Bingley were indifferent. By staying with Jane and trying to thwart her mother's none too subtle scheming, Lizzy tries to spare Jane and Bingley the embarassment of being thrown together alone.

I'm sure Bingley would have made his own opportunity to propose in his own time, without any pressure from Mrs Bennet.
