Elizabeth's walk-through of Darcy's behavior at Longbourn   Written by Lila (6/18/2007 12:20 a.m.)
Are you new?

In Chapter 53 Elizabeth notes that Darcy looked serious "as usual" and "more as he had been used to look in Herfortshire, than she had seen him at Pemberley." This seems to mean that Darcy has his haughty look about him again. But she attributes this to being in the presence of Mrs. Bennet. Then she wonders why he is so quiet.. According to her, he was more talkative in Derbyshire and would talk to her friends when he could not talk with her. She also notices that he does not look at her more than others in the room. And finally, she notes that he is less eager to please now than before.

She is so, so cautious! She has just found out that Darcy was instrumental in the marriage of her sister. Her Aunt is under the impression that Darcy is in love with Elizabeth. Darcy has just come back to Longbourn when there is absolutely no reason for him to be back (unless of course to see Elizabeth). He almost has his love tattooed on his forehead... yet she is still unsure!

Was it truly unheard of for a man to propose again after having been turned down the first time?
