Why the Lakes?   Written by Marie C (6/17/2007 2:54 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Why an invitation to the Lake District?, penned by Adrian
Are you new?

Because of its picturesque scenery, the Lake District was - and still is, to a large extent - THE favourite touring region in England, famous for its lakes and mountains. For the Gardiners to propose to take Elizabeth along with them to the Lakes is to offer her a real treat; considering her love of nature and its beauties, no wonder she's in ecstasy about the prospect. Her disappointment at the change for the Peak District is quite understandable and would be felt in the same way today... Derbyshire is also very nice, but not on the same scale

:) People from Derbyshire, if any at RoP, I am not berating the merits of your lovely region ;D
