Colonel Fitzwilliam?   Written by Tracy W (6/17/2007 7:36 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Darcy required no help at all?, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

Perhaps the answer to your question is Colonel Fitzwilliam. We know that Darcy has at least one connection into the army, in the person of Colonel Fitzwilliam. I think that we have sufficient reason to believe that Colonel Fitzwilliam is no current friend of Wickham's - Darcy looks to him to confirm his story if Elizabeth doubts it.

Or possibly the buying and selling of commissions was so formalised that Darcy simply told his steward or some other employee to locate a suitable commission much as he might tell them to order a dozen casks of a particular wine. That being a work relationship would require no former friendship with Wickham.
