Mr. Bennet doesn't want to give any sign that he approves of Lydia's behaviour, which buying wedding clothes for her would do, IMO. However, since Lydia seems equally oblivious to the fact that anyone disapproves of her behaviour in any serious way, that point is moot, also! ;-)
