lines under the words   Written by Katy B (6/11/2007 1:47 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, I read it differently, penned by Christopher
Are you new?

Yes, I think you are right, Christopher. Lydia underlined a lot of words for emphasis, which would be precisely the words Kitty could NOT share with anyone because those were the juicy parts!

For example, it might go like this:

Dear Kitty,
Just imagine what fun we are having!! Yesterday Mrs. F took me shopping and guess who I saw in town!!! Wickham!!(underlined-my computer won't let me in this text box). Wickham and I took a walk together and I begged him to kiss me!! We sat down under a tree and he nibbled my ear!! He promised we would run away together...(etc).

The only part Kitty could share would be the first two sentences.

therefore, I think the lines under the words are the words that described what she was doing and planning with Wickham, not the parts Kitty COULD share. I don't think Lydia was calculating enough for that (such as, Kitty, only read out loud to the family the sentences I have underlined). Lydia probably wrote two letters - one innocent, short one to her parents, and a long one to Kitty in which she shares all the juicy details about Wickham.
